WMC-LA provided design and engineering services for 1255 22nd Street, NW, a multi family residential complex in northeast Washington, D.C. The complex is a revitalization of an existing building and contains residential units, retail and restaurant spaces.
WMC-LA completed full landscape services, including overall site analysis, streetscape design, urban plaza design, and Green Area Ratio calculations. The streetscape design follows standard District and DDOT public space guidelines.
The urban plaza presented several design challenges, including an existing structural slab below finished grade. With limited soil availability, the plaza uses a combination of seat walls, a decorative stone band and low plantings to define gathering spaces and the outdoor dining area. Linear paving directs pedestrians towards the main entrance and restaurant area. WMC-LA worked with the design team to make the plaza a welcoming addition to the renovated building.
