As a result of the citywide initiative to renovate and construct recreation centers and public parks, the District of Columbia’s Department of Parks and Recreation is adapting the former Barry Farms Park to house the 8,000 sq ft Barry Farm Recreation Center.
WMC-LA assisted the team with full landscape architecture services for the new facility. The design included synthetic turf playing fields, retaining walls, and native planting design.
An exterior courtyard serves as an area for community events and as an outdoor extension for center activities. Low impact design strategies were used to minimize the impacts of stormwater runoff from the site.
